ABEX launches the MAP3 at ‘Bus and Coach Live 2009’ at the NEC

Setting a new standard in above-ground and high-level maintenance safety
ABEX is officially launching its mobile access platform, the MAP3 at the ‘Bus and Coach Live 2009’ show at the NEC on the 7th and 8th October. After twelve months development, the MAP3 is now in operation at several bus depots and is setting new safety standards in above-ground and high- level maintenance.

The MAP3 is a safer, simpler and more cost effective solution to high-level work such as bus and coach window and bodywork repair and maintenance. The electric powered rechargeable truck is controlled from the platform and is easy to manoeuvre with pinpoint accuracy. Able to carry up to three personnel and a typical bus or coach windscreen, the MAP3 reduces the manual handling required by other access platform equipment, for significantly safer operations.

The simple and effective design allows the platform to be quickly adjusted to specific bus and coach profiles, ensuring a neat and tight fit. Other safety features include a locking system, which immobilises the unit when the front gates are moved out of the way for working and extending sidebars for a safe and secure operator environment.

Stable and tilt resilient, the MAP3 has been tested to exceed current legislation.

Birmingham based forklift truck specialists ABEX developed the MAP3 in conjunction with TOP-TEC Industrial at Dalen Limited. Each company has brought its respective specific expertise in motorised trucks and access platform engineering to create a unique product that will not only make bus and coach maintenance safer but can also be used in many other sectors. Depots already using the ABEX MAP3 report a very positive effect on maintenance and repair procedures, and have also found it invaluable for more general duties such as lighting and workshop door maintenance.

ABEX MD Martin Connop comments: “The MAP3 will help to eliminate compromises on safety. High level working always carries a risk and the MAP3 makes it safer and easier to repair windows and bodywork at height. It’s a robust but highly manoeuvrable unit that is proving successful and popular with users. We are now rolling out production across the UK and the ‘Bus and Coach Live 2009’ show is our opportunity to let operators know that high level repair just got safer.”

ABEX can be found at stand D63 in Halls 17 & 18 at the NEC on 7th and 8th October, where an ABEX MAP3 platform will be on show.

DOUBLE THE APPEAL J.W. GLASS AND SUPER SCREENS SHARE THE SUCCESS AT COACH & BUS LIVE 2009
Super Screens and J.W. Glass attracted a great deal of interest with their combined stand at Coach & Bus Live 2009. The companies had joined forces at the show as part of their ‘local companies, national support’ promise to customers.

Visitors to the stand were able to find out more about how these two independents, by joining together with a network of like-minded companies, were extending the personal service they provide on a local basis to support operators throughout the UK.

Richard Knight, from Super Screens, said: “The show provided a great opportunity for us to talk to operators about the benefits we could offer and discuss in more how we could satisfy their individual requirements.”

Jim Wood, from J W Glass, added: “We both pride ourselves on our quality of fitting, our rapid response and the wide range of coach and bus glass we hold in stock. By working together, as part of a larger network, we can keep the service personal but support our customers on a national basis, 24/7.”
